Word! Play!

The No. 1 way a marketer can prove himself is……….. selling ice to Eskimos and chopsticks to Chinese…..

Its all about words! How well can you make those words appealing, the expertise put into play in conjuring words together and making remarkable sentences is what differentiates a skilled and talented lawyer from any good lawyer….

Its only words that can make one feel an apple has orange juice in it; it’s the weapon of every marketer….

There was lady caught in the “art” of fornication, she was brought to JESUS that she should be stoned, JESUS didn’t want to say “hey! you guys do away with the law, and let her go, why in the world would you want to stone someone to death this hot afternoon?

HE simply put words to play and said if any of you has no sin cast the first stone! [a.k.a if any of you has never had sex outside marriage you can as well kill her]…….. and everyone was gone in no time.

CHRIST knew he was dealing with hypocrites!

Has anyone ever asked where the guy she was having sex with was or was she having it with herself!

Here is another one……………..

CHRIST wanted to heal some guy who had health issues, and the law at that time was no one should work on a Sunday! So people were staring at HIM, if HE would heal the guy! [Healing was of the only job CHRIST was known for]
JESUS put words to play…. Would you do good or evil on a Sunday?![ Mark 3:4]

JESUS had to do what HE had to do to sell HIS product [salvation!]
So should you, be calm and be wise and put words to play and hey! Don’t lie OO!

Be on the lookout the way you talk to people your words could hurt……. Don’t tell a girl she now fat and ugly…… tell she’s looking a bit bigger, looking round and kind of rough around the edges………

Words go a long way, you need that skill……… Especially in addressing women…………

Are you looking for a way to sell ice to an Eskimo….. talk about global warming and the way all the ice is going away that he could buy your ice and save it… and the ice could be worth a fortune in the nearest future………
The power of life and death is in the tongue…………… Pro 18:21

THE WORLD WE LIVE IN #LIVINGANDEXISTING

THE WORLD WE LIVE IN

#LIVINGANDEXISTING

30 year old Folarin was startled out of his sleep. Koyinsola, his neighbor’s 7th daughter, had begun her daily herald with her tiny but piercing shriek that would wake up even her dead grandma from her eternal resting place in the courtyard. Folarin’s first thoughts were to quickly grab another couple of minutes sleep, but the foul stench of Iya Mosun’s herbal soup heating on the stove outside quickly put to bed those thoughts. As the first rays of dawn began to appear on the horizon, it dawned on Folarin that he was about to repeat the same sequence of activities that had characterized his life for the past 8 years; WAKE> BATH>BOARD A BUS> WORK>LUNCH>WORK>DINNER>BATH>SLEEP. He had lived in the same one room apartment for 8 years and repeated the same activities without fail from Monday to Saturday.

Folarin is the average Nigerian youth, he has a job he doesn’t like but can’t leave because it pays the bills, he has big dreams (that seem to be slowly fading away with each passing day), he attends church diligently on Sunday without fail, would gladly settle down and marry (just as soon as he can afford it and find a good woman as well). Folarin is me and you!

Ok so, your story is different, you are not 30, you don’t need a girl (you have the whole lot to pick from), you have a job that makes your friends green with envy, you attend church (sometimes) and are definitely set for a bright future and your name is definitely not Folarin.

Or your story maybe that you are pretty, in love with the man of your dreams (he just happens to be rich as well), you have a degree so no man can bully you or make you feel worthless, you are employed by a multinational and earn enough to put even your male colleagues to shame, to cap it all you have your own apartment already.

There are over 80 million permutations to this scenario in Nigeria, as every individual has a unique identity but what makes all these scenarios identical is the lack of purpose. Folarin and the other faceless Nigerians I described had lives that looked full on the outside but was really empty inside. They are busy with work, love or just life itself but there really isn’t any anchor or marker that can be used to define them.

Last week I asked for comments on Living and Existing, I got some really amazing responses and these are some of them. “Living is to do what’s right by God and man existing is to live without concern for others.”  “Living is being in the world trying all possible means to achieve one’s dreams, existing is when you are in a world of no definitions, no dreams to pursue.” “Living is fulfilling your God given purpose, Existing is living a life you are not called to live.” “Living is being here with a purpose, being a part of someone’s life, Existing is merely a self centered rush.”

I won’t over flog the issue because it is as plain as day; everyone that commented pointed out the same thing, Living is discovering purpose. It is finding meaning in a world full of clutters and junk, it is standing out without losing out. Living is for humans, as Existing is for animals.

My Father once said, “Son, A life without purpose is like a ship without a Captain, directions and a
compass, it would be driven by the wind until it is broken on a rock…”

How do you discover your life’s purpose and how do you go about achieving them?  Next week I would share some secrets I have garnered over the years on the issue of purpose. You can also drop your ideas on how one can achieve purpose in the comments box below….until next week have a wonderful week.  ff@hashtag_dz_pm for more insightful articles on sports, fashion, movies e.t.c

AKIN IS DEAD

I woke this Friday morning and sought to quickly do what had become a ritual for me (and a zillion other BlackBerry users), update my pm and change dp with the customary TGIF (Thank God Its Friday), and then the call came in on my curve 9320… the caller id revealed that it was my friend and course-mate, so when he asked “Deji, are you awake? I answered yes irritatedly as I normally always assume that only a foolish person would ask such a question. I mean, would I answer if I was sleeping?

Unbeknownst to me, he wasn’t foolish rather he needed to ascertain my state of mind before dropping his bombshell…then he said it “Akin is dead.”

My heart skipped a beat; I could feel my balls shrink in my scrotum, the cold that crept right through me would have chilled a Pepsi in the Sahara. Then I did what the average human does, I denied the truth. It’s a lie I said, although I knew that he wouldn’t call me to prank me, he wasn’t the type.  Two hours and several phone calls later, we were tearing down Ikorodu road in two cabs as we sought to evidence the truth ourselves. As I sat in the cab and stared out at the passing freeway, the truth hit me right in the face, literally (Actually, it was a newspaper centre spread from a danfo that escaped its reader that hit me in the face), THE WORLD WE LIVE IN!!!

When I decided to write this morning, I was going to write about love, and money and girls and every good thing I craved. But, all that paled into insignificance in a second as those words escaped my friend’s lips. I can talk about the great game of soccer and last week’s fixtures, the rebirth (for a 1000th time ) of Fernando Torres, the injury to Bale, the drought that has befallen RVP, and many other key talking points.
I can talk about the madness and disgraceful act of unilag students as they ambushed Wizkid for money after the Pepsi Campus Challenge last night, the fact that Mr. Byno is now the new Pepsi ambassador, or that we might just be witnessing the making of another celebrity in unilag.

I can talk about the soon to be released “The Gods are still not to be blamed” movie by Funke Akindele-Oloyede, the military stand-off that is brewing in Asia between North and South Korea and how the United States features in that particular situation.

There is so much I wanted to discuss, but all I was really compelled to say was the truth!  The truth is YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!!!!!

There, I said it, not surprised? You’ve heard it before? So? It is still the truth!  My father once said, “Only few live, many of us exist.” Are you living or existing?

Please drop your comments on what you think is living and what you think existing is in the comments box below….next week I would respond to your comments with my opinion and views on them. Till then @hastag_dz_pm wishes you a wonderful week….
